The 2019 Oscar Nominations Are Finally Here
Roma" and "The Favourite" are top dogs this year with 10 nominations each. The other films nominated for best picture are "Black Panther," "BlacKkKlansman," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "A Star Is Born," "Vice" and "Green Book." The 91st Academy Awards will be broadcast on ABC Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
We've reached the final stop – at least where nominations are concerend – of this year's awards season. You'll have to hold your breath another month until the Academy Award winners are announced at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February, 24. We know who our favourites are to take away an Oscar statuette or two (here's looking at you Rami Malek and the team behind Bohemian Rhapsody), but now's the time to celebrate everyone who's put in a tremendous amount of hard work to be bestowed with the honour of calling themselves Academy Award nominees.
The good news is that despite the outcome of the Oscars, there's already tons to celebrate.
Netflix receives its first ever Best Picture nomination for the Mexican drama Roma, which is just one of ten nominations for the film, tying it with The Favourite for most nominations this year. The Favourite is also competing for Best Picture.
A Star Is Born and Vice received eight nominations each, with Black Panther following closely, honoured with seven. The Marvel Comics film becomes the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture.
Other notable nominations include BlacKkKlansman with six, Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book tying with five each, and First Man and Mary Poppins Returns both receiving four nominations in total.
As for snubs, Emily Blunt and Timothée Chalamet miss out on acting nominations for Mary Poppins Returns and Beautiful Boy, respectively, despite earning nods for the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Crazy Rich Asians seems to have suffered the same fate.
